Principal's welcome

I am delighted to commence 2018 as the new P-12 College Principal at Nambour State College.  We farewell and thank Dr Troyahn for his many years of service to the school as the long standing Principal and wish him all the best in his new adventures.  It is very exciting to begin to immerse myself in a new school.  I am looking forward to meeting everyone in our school community and leading the school into the future.   Nambour State College is such a friendly, warm and welcoming place.  I really enjoyed visiting classes and seeing ‘learning in action’ in the last week of term 4, 2017.  It was lovely to meet so many positive staff and students as I had my first tour of the College.  I really value personal interactions and believe that forming supportive relationships is one of the keys to a successful school.  Because of this, in semester one, I will be prioritising meeting with as many members of our school community as I can, so please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with me via our administration office staff, if you would like to touch base and share your views and/or perceptions of the College with me.
I am committed to building on the rich history of the College and seeing the motto “Local foundations, global opportunities” come to life for our students.  We can achieve this with:
·         a narrow and sharp focus on our core business – teaching and learning;
·         a rich and viable curriculum;
·         engaging pedagogical practices; and
·         the consistent application of the responsible behaviour plan.
At Nambour State College our vision is to support students to excel in their chosen pathway, nurturing independence, compassion, innovation and global citizenship.  I have set the bar high in terms of my expectations on attendance, participation, uniform and behaviour, so that our vision can become a reality for all members of our school community.  I challenge every one of our students to:
·         move into the new school year with pride, enthusiasm and commitment to learning;
·         take on student leadership, coaching and/or mentor roles within our student body;
·         make the best contribution they possibly can to our school community;
  • explore all the educational possibilities and curriculum options available to you;
  • embrace difficult challenges as opportunities to grow and develop; and
  • think seriously about what career options you are interested in.
My aim as the College Principal is to:
·         foster a genuine sense of belonging for the young people in our care;
·         persistently explore strategies and ideas on how our teachers, students and parents can address individual students learning gaps as identified in their academic, effort and behaviour results; and
·         continue to excite our school community about learning.
I am looking forward to leading the school with the support of our Primary Principal Rebecca Hutton and our Secondary Principal Sean Maher, as we work on our strategic priorities:
  1. Literacy
  2. Numeracy
  3. Positive School Culture
  4. Teaching and Learning
  5. Curriculum
and through these priorities creating some fabulous outcomes for our students and staff.
Kind regards
Fiona Free
